A futuristic western. Age Rating: Some violence, language, and sexual imagery. Adult Content: Sexual imagery around the women. Women are dangerous "femme fatales." Magic: None. Overall -- What You Really Want to Know: The huge popularity of Cowboy Bebop comes not from the bright, fun, mindless entertainment but from it's deep character development, high-quality animation, and its claim to some of the best music integration in any anime. (Though the well-animated fighting sequences, clever humor, and sexy women don't hurt much.) The whole series, each episode its own little plot, is dedicated to exploring the characters. Cowboy Bebop has some of the best character development around. The animation (image and movement) is excellent. Visual themes include slow closeups of details around the area -- the cinematography is professional and creative. You might say that one of the stars of Bebop is the music. It is said that the anime was created FOR the music. Blues and jazz are primary -- each episode has a musical title -- and even their ship, the Bebop, is indicative of how music is integrated into the very fabric of this anime. The women are another theme. Spike (our martial artist) underestimates them; they are often presented as femme fatales (dangerous but beautiful creatures), and often have sexual imagery around them. Faye, one of the main characters, wears very short shorts, thigh-high stockings, and is not very self-conscious. The fighting, while sometimes graphic (blood, spit, etc), is fluid and delicate, like a powerful dance. Spike, a martial artist, is always enjoyable to watch. The humor is dry and clever. There is some language. Because the characters are bounty-hunters and chase badguys for profit, they come across locals and badguys who curse. Like the well-loved anime Trigun, Cowboy Bebop is a futuristic western. Our main characters are "space cowboys." I have not seen much of the English dubbed version, but I believe that they did a good job translating it and keeping the music intact. Therefore, I would recommend either version. <--- http://hugglebunny.com/animereviews/ --->
